Jessica Smith, LCSW, PMH-C

Owner/Therapist

Meet Jessica

Jessica Smith is an LCSW and PMH-C and the sole owner and therapist at Balance and Blossom Therapy. If you are struggling with the transition to parenthood, experiencing anxiety or depression during pregnancy or postpartum, coping with infertility or loss, or simply feeling overwhelmed by everything you are carrying, I would be honored to support you.

My Approach to Therapy

Everyone can benefit from therapy! Taking care of our mental health is just as important as scheduling wellness visits with our doctor. Your treatment will be tailored to your individual needs to work together to meet your short and long-term goals. Parenthood can also bring memories and emotions from our own childhood experiences to the surface. Therapy can provide a safe space to explore those experiences, understand how they may be impacting you as a parent, and develop healthier ways of coping and connecting with yourself and your family.

My Professional Background

Jessica has more than 19 years in the field with experience in settings including therapeutic day school, public school, teen residential center, foster care, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation. In addition to providing individual therapy, Jessica works as an adjunct social work professor and field liaison at Aurora University.

Areas of Specialization

I specialize in perinatal mental health, including postpartum depression and anxiety, infertility and pregnancy loss, adjustment to parenthood, and the emotional challenges that can arise during pregnancy and the postpartum period. I also work with women and young adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, and other major life transitions. My experience includes parent coaching, suicide and self-harm prevention, body safety and sexual abuse prevention, and helping families navigate the world of special education. In addition, I also have specialized training in EMDR and incorporate trauma-focused approaches when appropriate for a client's goals.

Perinatal and Postpartum Mental Health

Becoming a parent can bring some of life’s most meaningful moments—and some of its most difficult emotions. My passion is supporting women and new parents as they navigate pregnancy, postpartum, infertility and loss, changing relationships, and the many transitions that come with becoming a parent. These experiences can bring anxiety, sadness, overwhelm, grief, and emotions that may feel difficult to understand or manage. You do not have to navigate them alone.

What You Can Expect in Therapy

I believe everyone can benefit from therapy. Taking care of our mental health is just as important as scheduling wellness visits with our doctor. Your therapy will be tailored to your individual needs, with our work focused on the goals that are most meaningful to you—both now and for the future.
